While penal substitution may be the crown jewel of the doctrine of the atonement, it is by no means the only aspect of Jesus’ death. There have been plenty of other important observations made about the significance of the cross in scripture and throughout church history. Today, we’ll examine some of those and discuss how all of these aspects should be taken together to form a full picture of the work of Jesus on the cross.
